I was convicted in a false case in 1995 and due to the conviction; I was ultimately dismissed from Govt Service. That conviction was set aside in 2010 by High Court but the department did not released my retiral dues. I approached CSLRA; they tookup my case without any fees. I have been given retiral benefits in 2015. I am a widow; aged 75. They saved my life. Thank you CSLRA!

The Poor Are Paying for Demonetisation

One month into demonetisation, the hardships faced by India’s citizenry have not abated. This is significant because it is not the result of some natural calamity but follows directly from actions taken by the government. As we are a democracy, the actions of the government and its associated bodies need to be scrutinised in public. We may start with the actions of India’s monetary authority, the Reserve bank of India (RBI).

Demonetisation Paradox: Lack of Popular Opposition to a Move That Has Caused Widespread Havoc

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move was projected as being part of a concerted policy to root out black money from the system, deal a blow to the counterfeit currency in circulation and disrupt the financial operations of terrorist networks. A few weeks after the note ban, the mantra being repeated is that demonetisation would push India towards becoming a ‘cashless society’. This could open the path to an overt monitoring of all transactions and possibly facilitate a shift to a bank transaction tax – a policy move that has been under discussion for sometime now.

Solicitor General of India should be sacked for making big damage to India’s case at Supreme Court of India in regard to return of ‘Kohinoor’ diamond from Britain

British Prime Minister Cameron during his February-2013 on specific question on return of ‘Kohinoor’ diamond to India, David Cameron stated that he did not believe in ‘returnism’! British rulers are self-conscious by themselves of their big loot in India when Queen Elizabeth did not use ‘Kohinoor’ studded crown during any of her visits to India, even though she did use it in Pakistan during her same tour of 1960’s to twin nations.

Rent-dues against ex-Parliamentarians: Gireesh Kumar (7 Talkatora Road, New Delhi) tops list with rupees 2307498

Strange are our systems that government-bungalow number 7 Talkatora Road (New Delhi) could not be vacated from ex-Parliamentarian Gireesh Kumar for more than five years after he lost entitlement to retain the bungalow ever since he ceased to be a Raya Sabha member in June 2010. What more, he even did not pay for the rent for his unauthorised accommodation of the bungalow which accumulated to be 2307498 thus making him top the defaulter-list in regards of payment of rent-dues. The rich ex-Parliamentarian was earlier in news for spending lavishly on the government-accommodation breaking all rules and norms set for government-bungalows in Leyton’s zone of New Delhi. Even the single-storied bungalow was converted into double-storied one.

Pricing and packing of medicines: MRP on generic medicines allows 400-percent trade-margins!

National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) should look into abnormally high printed ‘Maximum Retail Price’ (MRP) on generic-medicines which allows even upto 400-percent trade margins above their respective ex-factory prices. NPAA must fix some maximum trade-margin on generic medicines whereby there may be a reasonable difference between their ex-factory prices and MRPs. Thereafter generic medicines should be publicised giving comparative prices of popular brands of different companies with the generic medicines having same salt. This will make prices of branded medicines sharply reduced.

A Padma for the Prosecutor

Nikam is best known as the man who successfully prosecuted Ajmal Kasab and Yakub Memon, two men who in the public imagination had waged war against the Indian state. He sent both to the gallows after prolonged and public trials. Perhaps, Nikam can count many others among his victims, but it is his success against Kasab and Memon that has brought him public recognition – and, adoration in certain quarters. And it is this adoration that deserves our critical examination.
